Addresses comments on Eigen pull request PR-174.
* Get rid of code-duplication for real vs. complex matrices.
* Fix flipped arguments to select.
* Make the condition estimation functions free functions.
* Use Vector::Unit() to generate canonical unit vectors.
* Misc. cleanup.
