These functions revert to copying the data if any of the following conditions holds: - string size is at most kMaxBytesToCopy (511), to avoid the overhead of an external chunk for short strings; - less than half of string capacity is used, to avoid pinning to much unused memory. It reduces the alignment of the data structure from a value larger than one to one. When applied to a structure, ABSL_ATTRIBUTE_PACKED reduces the alignment of a structure (alignof()) to 1. As a result, the compiler can no longer assume that e.g. uint32 members are aligned on a four byte boundary and hence is forced to use single-byte load and store instructions on CPU architectures that do not support non-aligned loads or stores. Previously there were two different ways to probe for std::hash. One in hash.h and another in type_traits.h, and they were both implemented differently, and neither correctly worked around bad STL implementations. This patch unifies the implementations into a single IsHashable trait. It also: * Correctly checks for old libc++ versions where this won't work. * Avoids undefined behavior which resulted from calling std::is_constructible incomplete types. * Unifies the feature test macro used in the headers and the tests. Additionally it also slightly changes the behavior of when absl::variant is hashable. Previously we disable hashing when std::hash<T>()(key) was formed but when std::hash<T> couldn't be destructed. This seems wrong. If a user provides a evil specialization of std::hash, then it's OK for variant's hash to blow up. Thus the best we can do is switch on _DEBUG, which is set whenever the debug runtime is selected with the /MDd build flag, as in Bazel -dbg modes.
