| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | Imported from GitHub PR https://github.com/abseil/abseil-cpp/pull/1498 In Windows, a few libraries (`dbghelp`, `advapi32`, and `bcrypt`) are added via link options. However, the .pc files produced for pkg-config erroneously include them before the abseil libraries. This can cause undefined references when trying to build against abseil. This commit swaps the order and adds the custom link options after the abseil dependencies. | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | This is a heavily modified version of https://github.com/abseil/abseil-cpp/pull/1445, which adds some missing test libraries to the test DLL. Unlike #1445, this change moves several global variables out of headers that did not need to be in headers. For instance, cord_btree_exhaustive_validation was a global defined/declared in cord_internal, but only used in cord_rep_btree and its test. cordz_handle defined a queue in its header even though it wasn't needed, which also led to ODR problems. The Spinlock used in CordzHandle is replaced with a Mutex. This was originally a Mutex, but Chromium asked us to change it to a Spinlock to avoid a static initializer. The dependency cycle can occur if absl is configured with test helpers enabled, and googletest is configured to use absl. In the case that both projects are being built from source via FetchContent with OVERRIDE_FIND_PACKAGE, depending on the order in which the two projects are added to the build, the check_target calls may fail even though the build would have otherwise succeeded. The existing `check_target` calls seem to have been originally added to detect missing gtest targets when the `GTest::` prefix was not yet in use. For target names without "::", CMake does not warn if they are undefined, and just assumes they refer to system library names. However, CMake does fail during build generation if a target name with "::" is missing; thus the check_taget calls are redundant. Additionally, Abseil's CMakeLists.txt no longer re-declares the BUILD_TESTING option with a value of false. Abseil had been using just the BUILD_TESTING option, since the fix for #901. Because setting BUILD_TESTING false still works to disable Abseil's tests, this change preserves the behavior asked for in that issue. Previous to that, Abseil had a project specific flag for this, as is the typical idiom used in other projects. The issue with BUILD_TESTING is that it is an all-or-nothing policy. When Abseil is incorporated as a subproject, the encompasing project has no convenient way to enable its own tests while disabling Abseil's. Fixes #1056

When enabled, all Abseil CMake targets will set the cxx_std_11 target meta feature (which will then propagate to targets that depend upon Abseil) rather than setting the target-level CXX_STANDARD property to CMAKE_CXX_STANDARD (which is the default value anyway), which doesn't propagate. Updates README documentation to clarify behavior and with a different example recommendation for library projects (which should generally leave CMAKE_CXX_STANDARD to the root application project). Specifically, when sampling from an URBG with a non power of 2 range, FastUniformBits constructed a rejection threshold with a power-of-2 range that was too restrictive. For example, minstd_rand has a range of [1, 2147483646], which has a range of 2145386495, or about 30.999 bits. Before FastUniformBits rejected values between 1<<30 and 2145386495, which includes approximately 50% of the generated values. However, since a minimum of 3 calls are required to generate a full 64-bit value from an entropy pool of 30.9 bits, the correct value for rejection sampling is the range value which masks 21 (0x7fe00000) or 22 bits and rejects values greater than that. This reduces the probability of rejecting a sample to about 0.1% NOTE: Abseil random does not guarantee sequence stability over time, and this is expected to change sequences in some cases. So if the SpinLock is actually somehow locked for a very prolonged time, a waiter can still wake periodically. Rework the logic to solve these problems. Add lower bound of 128us, no code should rely on absence of episodic delays in this range as they can occur everywhere. Lower upper bound to 4ms. A thread sleeping for 4ms does not consume significant cpu time (see below). Grow lower bound with the number of iterations. This is cpu consumption of a process doing usleep(x) in a loop (sampled with ps): 64us -> 4.0% 128us -> 2.7% 256us -> 3.5% 512us -> 2.8% 1024us -> 1.6% 2048us -> 0.6% 4096us -> 0.3% 8192us -> 0.0% Few millisecond sleeps do not consume significant time. This manifests in dbg mode in Bazel builds. Disable tests which trigger this bug. It's impossible to specifically pull out MSVC 2017 -dbg modes because there's no way for Bazel to know when version of MSVC is being used -- you tell Bazel the directory where the MSVC tools live, not which version of MSVC tools to use. Thus the best we can do is switch on _DEBUG, which is set whenever the debug runtime is selected with the /MDd build flag, as in Bazel -dbg modes.
