- Many of them were broken, some of them after Pierre B's rework
of mli for ocamldoc, but not only (many bad annotation, many files
with no svn property about Id, etc)
- Useless for those of us that work with git-svn (and a fortiori
in a forthcoming git-only setting)
- Even in svn, they seem to be of little interest

variables with syntax:
[Local?|Global] Generalizable Variable(s)? [all|none|id1 idn].
By default no variable is generalizable, so this patch breaks backward
compatibility with files that used implicit generalization (through
Instance declarations for example). To get back the old behavior, one
just needs to use [Global Generalizable Variables all].
Make coq_makefile more robust using [mkdir -p].

1) compilation of Library.tex was failing on a "Ext_" in Diaconescu.v
In fact coqdoc was trying to recognize the end of a _emphasis_ and
hence inserted a bogus }. For the moment I've enclosed the phrase
with [ ], but this emphasis "feature" of coqdoc seems _really_
easy to broke. Matthieu ?
2) By the way, this Library document was made from latin1 and utf8
source file, hence bogus characters. All .v containing special
characters are converted to utf8, and their first line is now
mentionning this. (+ killed some old french comments and some
other avoidable special characters).
PLEASE: let's stick to this convention and avoid latin1, at least
in .v files.

guessing the binding name by default and making all generalized
variables implicit. At the same time, continue refactoring of
Record/Class/Inductive etc.., getting rid of [VernacRecord]
definitively. The AST is not completely satisfying, but leaning towards
Record/Class as restrictions of inductive (Arnaud, anyone ?).
Now, [Class] declaration bodies are either of the form [meth : type] or
[{ meth : type ; ... }], distinguishing singleton "definitional" classes
and inductive classes based on records. The constructor syntax is
accepted ([meth1 : type1 | meth1 : type2]) but raises an error
immediately, as support for defining a class by a general inductive type
is not there yet (this is a bugfix!).

- Rework definition of the type of respecful functions in Morphisms.v
- Unfold [flip] in "Add Morphism" tactic (suggested by N. Tabareau)
- Add a "coqvariableref" command in coqdoc.

[discriminated]] with a switch for using the more experimantal dnet impl
for every hint. Also add [Hint Transparent/Opaque] which parameterize
the dnet and the unification flags used by auto/eauto with a particular
database. Document all this. Remove [Typeclasses unfold] directives that
are no longer needed (everything is unfoldable by default) and move to
[Typeclasses Transparent/Opaque] syntax.

Now it's [A] and [R] for carriers and relations and [eqA] when the
relation is supposed to be an equivalence. The types are always implicit
except for [pointwise_relation] which now takes the domain type as an
explicit argument.

This permits to create a database [relations] in [RelationClasses] with
a single extern tactic in it that tries to apply [reflexivity] or
[symmetry]. This is then automatically used in [auto with *] and repair
backward compatibility. The previous commit broke some scripts which were
using [intuition] to do (setoid) [reflexivity] or [symmetry]: this
worked only by accident, because the hint database of typeclasses was
used. Overrall, this also allows to put a bunch of
always-applicable, related tactics in some database or to use
[Hint Extern] but match only on hypotheses.

syntax yet. Doesn't change the auto/eauto behavior either.
- Typeclass resolution now considers everything transparent by
default and does it consistently for "open" and closed terms.
- Correctly declare singleton classes definition as opaque for proof
search.
- Add a few initial declarations to make iff, id, compose... opaque
- Add definition of dependent signatures for dependent function types
and remove corresponding exception code in class_tactics. The
instance requires higher-order unification and is not really usable yet.

goals containing existentials and use transparency information on
constants (optionally). Only used by the typeclasses eauto engine for
now, but could be used for other hint bases easily (just switch a boolean).
Had to add a new "creation" hint to be able to set said boolean upon
creation of the typeclass_instances hint db.
Improve the proof-search algorithm for Morphism, up to 10 seconds
gained in e.g. Field_theory, Ring_polynom. Added a morphism
declaration for [compose].
One needs to declare more constants as being unfoldable using
the [Typeclasses unfold] command so that discrimination is done correctly, but
that amounts to only 6 declarations in the standard library.

- Change syntax of type class instances to better match the usual syntax of
lemmas/definitions with name first, then arguments ":" instance.
Update theories/Classes accordingly.
- Correct globalization of tactic references when doing Ltac :=/::=, update
documentation.
- Remove the not so useful "(x &)" and "{{x}}" syntaxes from
Program.Utils, and subset_scope as well.

term unification (for constant and variable delta unfolding) and one to
parameterize closed-term conversion. Most of the time conversion uses
full delta and unification does no delta. This fine-grain is used in
rewrite/setoid_rewrite, where only closed-term delta on global constants
is allowed.
- Interpret Hint Unfold as a directive for delta conversion in
auto/eauto when applying lemmas (i.e., for Resolve and Immediate hints).
- Remove ad-hoc support for this in typeclasses. Now setoid_rewrite
works correctly w.r.t. the old version regarding local definitions.
- Fix closed bugs which needed updating due to syntax modifications.

- Add an Equivalence instance for pointwise equality from an
Equivalence on the codomain of a function type, used by default when
comparing functions with the Setoid's ===/equiv.
- Partially fix the auto hint database "add" function where the exact
same lemma could be added twice (happens when doing load for example).

relf/sym/trans relations from morphisms on prop connectives and
relations.
- Add general order theory on predicates, instantiated for relations.
Derives equivalence, implication, conjunction and disjunction as
liftings from propositional connectives. Can be used for n-ary
homogeneous predicates thanks to a bit of metaprogramming with lists of
types.
- Rebind Setoid_Theory to use the Equivalence record type instead of
declaring an isomorphic one. One needs to do "red" after constructor to
get the same statements when building objects of type Setoid_Theory, so
scripts break.

- Better interface in constrintern w.r.t. evars used during typechecking
- Add "unsatisfiable_constraints" exception which gives back the raw
evar_map that was not satisfied during typeclass search (presentation
could be improved).
- Correctly infer the minimal sort for typeclasses declared as
definitions (everything was in type before).
- Really handle priorities in typeclass eauto: goals produced with higher
priority (lowest number) instances are tried before other of lower
priority goals, regardless of the number of subgoals.
- Change inverse to a notation for flip, now that universe polymorphic
definitions are handled correctly.
- Add EquivalenceDec class similar to SetoidDec, declaring decision
procedures for equivalences.

types. Change (again) the semantics of bindings and the binding modifier
! in typeclasses. Inside [ ], implicit binding where only parameters
need to be given is the default, use ! to use explicit binding, which is
equivalent to regular bindings except for generalization of free
variables. Outside brackets (e.g. on the right of instance
declarations), explicit binding is the default, and implicit binding
can be used by adding ! in front. This avoids almost every use of ! in
the standard library and in other examples I have.

symmetric... classes for now, merging Relations with RelationClasses
requires some non-trivial changes on implicits but also some definitions
are different (e.g. antisymmetric in Classes is defined w.r.t an
equivalence relation and not eq). Move back to Reflexive and so on.
reflexivity-like tactics fail in the same way as before if Setoid was
not imported. There is now a scope for morphism signatures, hence "==>",
"++>" and "-->" can be given different interpretations.

names, gives the ability to specify qualified classes in instance
declarations. Use that in the class_tactics code.
Refine the implementation of classes. For singleton classes the
implementation of the class becomes a regular definition (into Type or
Prop). The single method becomes a 'trivial' projection that allows to
launch typeclass resolution. Each instance is just a definition as
usual. Examples in theories/Classes/RelationClasses. This permits to
define [Class reflexive A (R : relation A) := refl : forall x, R x
x.]. The definition of [reflexive] that is generated is the same as the
original one. We just need a way to declare arbitrary lemmas as
instances of a particular class to retrofit existing reflexivity lemmas
as typeclass instances of the [reflexive] class.
Also debug rewriting under binders in setoid_rewrite to allow rewriting
with lemmas which capture the bound variables when applied (works only
with setoid_rewrite, as rewrite first matches the lemma with the entire,
closed term). One can rewrite with [H : forall x, R (f x) (g x)] in the goal
[exists x, P (f x)].

implementation. Mostly syntax changes when declaring parametric
relations, but also some declarations were relying on "default"
relations on some carrier. Added a new DefaultRelation type class that
allows to do that, falling back to the last declared Equivalence
relation by default. This will be bound to Add Relation in the next
commit.
Also, move the "left" and "right" notations in Program.Utils to "in_left" and
"in_right" to avoid clashes with existing scripts.
Minor change to record to allow choosing the name of the argument for

out. The semantics of the old setoid are faithfully simulated by the new
tactic, hence no scripts involving rewrite are modified. However,
parametric morphism declarations need to be changed, but there are only a
few in the standard library, notably in FSets. The declaration and the
introduction of variables in the script need to be tweaked a bit,
otherwise the proofs remain unchanged.
Some fragile scripts not introducting their variable names explicitely
were broken. Requiring Setoid requires Program.Basics which sets stronger
implicit arguments on some constants, a few scripts benefit from that.
Ring/field have been ported but do not really use the new typeclass
architecture as well as they could. Performance should be mostly
unchanged, but will certainly improve in the near future. Size of the
vo's seems not to have changed at all.
It will certainly break some contribs using Setoid.
