* Remove many superfluous 'open' indicated by ocamlc -w +33Gravatar Pierre Letouzey2014-03-05
| | | | | | | | With ocaml 4.01, the 'unused open' warning also checks the mli :-) Beware: some open are reported as useless when compiling with camlp5, but are necessary for compatibility with camlp4. These open are now marked with a comment.
* Makes the new Proofview.tactic the basic type of Ltac.Gravatar aspiwack2013-11-02
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | On the compilation of Coq, we can see an increase of ~20% compile time on my completely non-scientific tests. Hopefully this can be fixed. There are a lot of low hanging fruits, but this is an iso-functionality commit. With a few exceptions which were not necessary for the compilation of the theories: - The declarative mode is not yet ported - The timeout tactical is currently deactivated because it needs some subtle I/O. The framework is ready to handle it, but I haven't done it yet. - For much the same reason, the ltac debugger is unplugged. It will be more difficult, but will eventually be back. A few comments: I occasionnally used a coercion from [unit Proofview.tactic] to the old [Prooftype.tactic]. It should work smoothely, but loses any backtracking information: the coerced tactics has at most one success. - It is used in autorewrite (it shouldn't be a problem there). Autorewrite's code is fairly old and tricky - It is used in eauto, mostly for "Hint Extern". It may be an issue as time goes as we might want to have various success in a "Hint Extern". But it would require a heavy port of eauto.ml4 - It is used in typeclass eauto, but with a little help from Matthieu, it should be easy to port the whole thing to the new tactic engine, actually simplifying the code. - It is used in fourier. I believe it to be inocuous. - It is used in firstorder and congruence. I think it's ok. Their code is somewhat intricate and I'm not sure they would be easy to actually port. - It is used heavily in Function. And honestly, I have no idea whether it can do harm or not. Updates: (11 June 2013) Pierre-Marie Pédrot contributed the rebase over his new stream based architecture for Ltac matching (r16533), which avoid painfully and expensively working around the exception-throwing control flow of the previous API. (11 October 2013) Rebasing over recent commits (somewhere in r16721-r16730) rendered a major bug in my implementation of Tacticals.New.tclREPEAT_MAIN apparent. It caused Field_theory.v to loop. The bug made rewrite !lemma, rewrite ?lemma and autorewrite incorrect (tclREPEAT_MAIN was essentially tclREPEAT, causing rewrites to be tried in the side-conditions of conditional rewrites as well). The new implementation makes Coq faster, but it is pretty much impossible to tell if it is significant at all. git-svn-id: svn+ssh://scm.gforge.inria.fr/svn/coq/trunk@16967 85f007b7-540e-0410-9357-904b9bb8a0f7

* Pre-create typeclass_instances and rewrite hintdb in AutoGravatar letouzey2013-07-17
| | | | | | | | | | | This way, we avoid relying on the add_auto_init hook. This hook is left for the moment, but could probably be removed someday. We also stop using create_hint_db, which has an effect on the libstack. This wasn't a problem per se, but could if init_summaries is used more (for instance to temporary reset coq). git-svn-id: svn+ssh://scm.gforge.inria.fr/svn/coq/trunk@16624 85f007b7-540e-0410-9357-904b9bb8a0f7

* info_trivial, info_auto, info_eauto, and debug (trivial|auto)Gravatar letouzey2012-03-30
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | To mitigate the lack of a general "info" tactical, let's introduce some specialized tactics info_trivial, info_auto and info_eauto that display the basic tactics used when solving a goal. We also add tactics "debug trivial" and "debug auto" which display every basic tactics attempted by trivial or auto. Triggering the "info" or "debug" mode for auto, eauto, trivial can also be done now via global options, such as Set Debug Auto or Set Info Eauto. In case both debug and info modes are activated, the debug mode takes precedence. NB: it would be nice to name these tactics "info xxx" instead of "info_xxx", but I don't see how to implement a "info eauto" in eauto.ml4 (hence by TACTIC EXTEND) while keeping a generic "info foo" tactic in g_ltac.ml4 (useful to display a nice message about the unavailability of the general info). git-svn-id: svn+ssh://scm.gforge.inria.fr/svn/coq/trunk@15103 85f007b7-540e-0410-9357-904b9bb8a0f7

* Merge subinstances branch by me and Tom Prince.Gravatar msozeau2011-11-17
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | This adds two experimental features to the typeclass implementation: - Path cuts: a way to specify through regular expressions on instance names search pathes that should be avoided (e.g. [proper_flip proper_flip]). Regular expression matching is implemented through naïve derivatives. - Forward hints for subclasses: e.g. [Equivalence -> Reflexive] is no longer applied backwards, but introducing a specific [Equivalence] in the environment register a [Reflexive] hint as well. Currently not backwards-compatible, the next patch will allow to specify direction of subclasses hints. git-svn-id: svn+ssh://scm.gforge.inria.fr/svn/coq/trunk@14671 85f007b7-540e-0410-9357-904b9bb8a0f7

* Auto: avoid storing clausenv (and hence env, evar_map, universes) in voGravatar letouzey2011-10-26
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | It appears that registration of hints is the only place (at least when compiling stdlib) where Univ.universes (the graph of universes) is stored in vo. More precisely, a Hint Resolve will place in vo a pri_auto_tactic, which may contain some clausenv, which contain both a env and a evar_map, each of them containing a Univ.universes In fact, even env and evar_map are also never stored in vo apart from hints registration. Currently, there's nothing wrong in this storing of env / evar_map / universes. In fact, it seems that every stored universes are actually empty. Same for env, thanks to awkward lines { cl with env=empty_env }. But this may hinder potential evolutions of Univ.universes toward a private per-session representation. Conclusion: it is cleaner (and not that hard) to store a Term.types instead of the clausenv in vo, and reconstitute the clausenv at Require-time. On a compilation of the stdlib, the time effect is hardly noticable (<1%). NB: a Univ.universes is also stored in initial.coq, but this is a different story (Write State ...) git-svn-id: svn+ssh://scm.gforge.inria.fr/svn/coq/trunk@14611 85f007b7-540e-0410-9357-904b9bb8a0f7

* Opened the possibility to type Ltac patterns but it is not fully functional yetGravatar herbelin2009-12-24
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | - to type patterns w/o losing the information of what subterm is a hole would need to remember where holes were in "understand", but "understand" needs sometimes to instantiate evars to ensure the type of an evar is not its original type but the type of its instance (what can e.g. lower a universe level); we would need here to update evars type at the same time we define them but this would need in turn to check the convertibility of the actual and expected type since otherwise type-checking constraints may disappear; - typing pattern is apparently expensive in time; is it worth to do it for the benefit of pattern-matching compilation and coercion insertion? git-svn-id: svn+ssh://scm.gforge.inria.fr/svn/coq/trunk@12607 85f007b7-540e-0410-9357-904b9bb8a0f7

Classes: - Ability to define classes post-hoc from constants or inductive types. - Correctly rebuild the hint database associated to local hypotheses when they are changed by a [Hint Extern] in typeclass resolution. Tactics and proofs: - Change [revert] so that it keeps let-ins (but not [generalize]). - Various improvements to the [generalize_eqs] tactic to make it more robust and produce the smallest proof terms possible. Move [specialize_hypothesis] in tactics.ml as it goes hand in hand with [generalize_eqs]. - A few new general purpose tactics in Program.Tactics like [revert_until] - Make transitive closure well-foundedness proofs transparent. - More uniform testing for metas/evars in pretyping/unification.ml (might introduce a few changes in the contribs). Program: - Better sorting of dependencies in obligations. - Ability to start a Program definition from just a type and no obligations, automatically adding an obligation for this type. - In compilation of Program's well-founded definitions, make the functional a separate definition for easier reasoning. - Add a hint database for every Program populated by [Hint Unfold]s for every defined obligation constant. git-svn-id: svn+ssh://scm.gforge.inria.fr/svn/coq/trunk@12440 85f007b7-540e-0410-9357-904b9bb8a0f7
* This big commit addresses two problems:Gravatar soubiran2009-10-21
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | 1- Management of the name-space in a modular development / sharing of non-logical objects. 2- Performance of atomic module operations (adding a module to the environment, subtyping ...). 1- There are 3 module constructions which derive equalities on fields from a module to another: Let P be a module path and foo a field of P Module M := P. Module M. Include P. ... End M. Declare Module K : S with Module M := P. In this 3 cases we don't want to be bothered by the duplication of names. Of course, M.foo delta reduce to P.foo but many non-logical features of coq do not work modulo conversion (they use eq_constr or constr_pat object). To engender a transparent name-space (ie using P.foo or M.foo is the same thing) we quotient the name-space by the equivalence relation on names induced by the 3 constructions above. To implement this, the types constant and mutual_inductive are now couples of kernel_names. The first projection correspond to the name used by the user and the second projection to the canonical name, for example the internal name of M.foo is (M.foo,P.foo). So: ************************************************************************************* * Use the eq_(con,mind,constructor,gr,egr...) function and not = on names values * ************************************************************************************* Map and Set indexed on names are ordered on user name for the kernel side and on canonical name outside. Thus we have sharing of notation, hints... for free (also for a posteriori declaration of them, ex: a notation on M.foo will be avaible on P.foo). If you want to use this, use the appropriate compare function defined in name.ml or libnames.ml. 2- No more time explosion (i hoppe) when using modules i have re-implemented atomic module operations so that they are all linear in the size of the module. We also have no more unique identifier (internal module names) for modules, it is now based on a section_path like mechanism => we have less substitutions to perform at require, module closing and subtyping but we pre-compute more information hence if we instanciate several functors then we have bigger vo. Last thing, the checker will not work well on vo(s) that contains one of the 3 constructions above, i will work on it soon... git-svn-id: svn+ssh://scm.gforge.inria.fr/svn/coq/trunk@12406 85f007b7-540e-0410-9357-904b9bb8a0f7

Overrall, this also allows to put a bunch of always-applicable, related tactics in some database or to use [Hint Extern] but match only on hypotheses. git-svn-id: svn+ssh://scm.gforge.inria.fr/svn/coq/trunk@11384 85f007b7-540e-0410-9357-904b9bb8a0f7

Quite a nice speedup again, even Field_theory has dropped to 58s from 70s. git-svn-id: svn+ssh://scm.gforge.inria.fr/svn/coq/trunk@11381 85f007b7-540e-0410-9357-904b9bb8a0f7

This currently prevents resolution with constants which reduce to classes, hence the modifications in Setoids.Setoid. git-svn-id: svn+ssh://scm.gforge.inria.fr/svn/coq/trunk@11360 85f007b7-540e-0410-9357-904b9bb8a0f7

Doesn't change the auto/eauto behavior either. - Typeclass resolution now considers everything transparent by default and does it consistently for "open" and closed terms. - Correctly declare singleton classes definition as opaque for proof search. - Add a few initial declarations to make iff, id, compose... opaque - Add definition of dependent signatures for dependent function types and remove corresponding exception code in class_tactics. The instance requires higher-order unification and is not really usable yet. git-svn-id: svn+ssh://scm.gforge.inria.fr/svn/coq/trunk@11333 85f007b7-540e-0410-9357-904b9bb8a0f7
* Enhanced discrimination nets implementation, which can now work withGravatar msozeau2008-06-27
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | goals containing existentials and use transparency information on constants (optionally). Only used by the typeclasses eauto engine for now, but could be used for other hint bases easily (just switch a boolean). Had to add a new "creation" hint to be able to set said boolean upon creation of the typeclass_instances hint db. Improve the proof-search algorithm for Morphism, up to 10 seconds gained in e.g. Field_theory, Ring_polynom. Added a morphism declaration for [compose]. One needs to declare more constants as being unfoldable using the [Typeclasses unfold] command so that discrimination is done correctly, but that amounts to only 6 declarations in the standard library. git-svn-id: svn+ssh://scm.gforge.inria.fr/svn/coq/trunk@11184 85f007b7-540e-0410-9357-904b9bb8a0f7

Put some classes into Prop explicitely as singleton inductive types are no longer in Prop by default even if all the arguments are (is that really what we want? roconnor says no). git-svn-id: svn+ssh://scm.gforge.inria.fr/svn/coq/trunk@10868 85f007b7-540e-0410-9357-904b9bb8a0f7
