- Uniformisation of ML names between pretyping.ml and subtac_pretyping_F.ml
so as to ease the comparison between these files. Application of a
change that cannot do harm: j_nf_evar now called after getting evd
from consider_remaining_unif_problems in
Subtac_pretyping_F.understand_judgment. Four differences remain
(is it the sign of a problem?):
1) understand_type fails in Pretyping if evars remain but does not fail in
Subtac_pretyping_F
2) resolve_typeclasses (when called) is called with ~onlyargs:false and
~fail:true in Pretyping.understand, Pretyping.understand_gen and
Pretyping.understand_type but with true and false in these same
functions in Subtac_pretyping_F
3) understand_ltac does not call typeclasses in Pretyping but it
does call it in Subtac_pretyping_F
4) understand_judgment does call typeclasses in Pretyping but not in
Subtac_pretyping_F

- Choose one of the possible instances of an evar when considering
remaining unification constraints: otherwise we just do nothing and
some evars remain uninstantiated.
- Normalise the goal w.r.t. evars before subst, to avoid a double vision
problem: the substituted variable appears only in an instance of an evar
and when we try the rewrite it has been substituted making the dependency
disappear.
- Hack to correcly handle let-in annotations which are internalized as
casts: they're really typing constraints. Shouldn't we just change the
AST to have the type at rawconstr let-in nodes?

fonctions redéfinies deux fois (i.e. définies trois fois !), j'ai

help the type _checking_ anymore (they don't become typing constraints)
but they permit to coerce a subterm in a type. In particular, when
using a VM cast we avoid unneeded, unexpected conversions using the
default machine (oops!). Also remove the corresponding comment in
pretyping and fix the wrong use of casts in toplevel/command: accept
the trouble of using evars. This has the somewhat adverse effect that
when typing casted object we now have no typing constraints (see
e.g. examples in Cases.v)!
Probably, this will be backtracked partially tomorrow as many contribs
can rely on it and the change could make some unifications fail (in
particular with deep coercions). Let's try anyway!

It solves feature request 1852, makes me and Arnaud happy and
will permit to factor some more code in typeclasses.
- Records are introduced using the syntax "{| x := t; y := foo |}" and
"with" clauses are currently parsed but not yet supported in the
elaboration. You are invited to suggest other syntaxes :)
- Missing fields are turned into holes, extra fields cause an error
message. The current implementation finds the type of the record
at pretyping time, from the typing constraint alone (and just expects
an inductive with one constructor). It is then impossible to use
scope information to parse the bodies: that may be wrong. The other
solution I see is using the fields to detect the type earlier, before
internalisation of the bodies, but then we get in name clash hell.
- In funind/contrib/interface I mostly put [assert false] everywhere to
avoid warnings.

constraints in Program:
- normalize types and defs of local fixpoints before checking the
guardness condition to avoid having to give type annotations, e.g:
<<
Definition fold (A B : Set) (f : B -> A -> B) : B -> tree A -> B :=
fix aux acc t :=
match t with
| Leaf x => f acc x
| Node l => fold_left aux l acc
end.
>>
- add new inh_coerce_to_prod to allow coercion of the typing constraint
to a product before trying to split it. It's a noop in standard mode,
and forgets subsets in Program. Allows to typecheck:
<< (λ x, x) : { f : nat -> nat | ... } >>.
- Better handling of the "abstract" typing constraints in Program.
- Correctly normalize w.r.t. evars. the tycon given by users in Program.

Q:=fun x1 .. xn y =>
match x1 .. xn y with
| v1(z) .. vn(z) t => P(z)
| _ .. _ _ => ?evar-speciale-cas-impossible
end

- More meaningful argument name for resolve_typeclasses.
- Try to remove unneeded instance declarations in
Morphisms.
- Allow the proofs of reflexivity arising from unchanged
arguments in setoid_rewrite to be fullfiled by Morphism instances and
not necessariy because the relation is reflexive (needed by
higher-order morphisms). Use a new "MorphismProxy" class to implement
that efficiently.

[in I] := t [return pred] in b", just as SSReflect does with let:.
Change implementation: no longer a separate AST node, just add a case_style
annotation on Cases to indicate it (if ML was dependently typed we
could ensure that LetPatternStyle Cases have only one term to be
matched and one branch, alas...). This factors out most code and we lose
no functionality (win ! win !). Add LetPat.v test suite.
- Slight improvement of inference of return clauses for dependent
pattern matching. If matching a variable of non-dependent type
under a tycon that mentions it while giving no return clause, the
dependency will be automatically infered. Examples at the end of
DepPat. Should get rid of most explicit returns under tycons.

- Better interface in constrintern w.r.t. evars used during typechecking
- Add "unsatisfiable_constraints" exception which gives back the raw
evar_map that was not satisfied during typeclass search (presentation
could be improved).
- Correctly infer the minimal sort for typeclasses declared as
definitions (everything was in type before).
- Really handle priorities in typeclass eauto: goals produced with higher
priority (lowest number) instances are tried before other of lower
priority goals, regardless of the number of subgoals.
- Change inverse to a notation for flip, now that universe polymorphic
definitions are handled correctly.
- Add EquivalenceDec class similar to SetoidDec, declaring decision
procedures for equivalences.

binding, add "!" syntax for the new binders which require parameters and
not superclasses. Change backquotes for curly braces for user-given
implicit arguments, following tradition. This requires a hack a la
lpar-id-coloneq. Change ident to global for typeclass names in class
binders. Also requires a similar hack to distinguish between [ C t1 tn ]
and [ c : C t1 tn ]. Update affected theories.
While hacking the parsing of { wf }, factorized the two versions of fix
annotation parsing that were present in g_constr and g_vernac.
Add the possibility of the user optionaly giving the priority for resolve and
exact hints (used by type classes). Syntax not fixed yet: a natural
after the list of lemmas in "Hint Resolve" syntax, a natural after a "|"
after the instance constraint in Instance declarations (ex in
Morphisms.v).

The initial Type Classes patch.
This patch introduces type classes and instance definitions a la Haskell.
Technically, it uses the implicit arguments mechanism which was extended a bit.
The patch also introduces a notation for explicitely marking implicit, maximally inserted parameters.
It includes the tactic redefinition code too (Ltac tac ::= foo redefines tac).

all arguments are tried successively (from left to right) until one is
found that satisfies the structural decreasing condition.
When the system accepts a fixpoint, it now prints which decreasing argument
was used, e.g:
plus is recursively defined (decreasing on 1st argument)
The search is quite brute-force, and may need to be optimized for huge mutual
fixpoints (?). Anyway, writing explicit {struct} is always a possible fallback.
N.B. in the standard library, only 4 functions have an decreasing argument
different from the one that would be automatically infered:
List.nth, List.nth_ok, List.nth_error, FMapPositive.xfind
And compiling with as few explicit struct as possible would add about 15s
in compilation time for the whole standard library.

Adds a new kind of casts (CastCoerce) for coercing an object to its base type (e.g. inductive).
The new cast_type type subsumes usual casts ConvCasts. Much of the patch is just adding ConvCasts where needed.
The Pretyping module has been adapted to this change, although it doesn't change anything yet, but this construct could have
a use with current coercions also. Pretyping is also cleaned from the "Use type constraints under lambdas" patch which is not yet ready
for wide use. It has been transferred to a copy of the Pretyping Functor in subtac_pretyping_F.ml.
Subtac is now working as well as I demonstrated at TYPES.
