reference was defined as Ident or Qualid, but the qualid type already
permits empty paths. So we had effectively two representations for
unqualified names, that were not seen as equal by eq_reference.
We remove the reference type and replace its uses by qualid.

We remove most of what was deprecated in `Term`. Now, `intf` and
`kernel` are almost deprecation-free, tho I am not very convinced
about the whole `Term -> Constr` renaming but I'm afraid there is no
way back.
Inconsistencies with the constructor policy (see #6440) remain along
the code-base and I'm afraid I don't see a plan to reconcile them.
The `Sorts` deprecation is hard to finalize, opening `Sorts` is not a
good idea as someone added a `List` module inside it.

In #6092, `global_reference` was moved to `kernel`. It makes sense to
go further and use the current kernel style for names.
This has a good effect on the dependency graph, as some core modules
don't depend on library anymore.
A question about providing equality for the GloRef module remains, as
there are two different notions of equality for constants. In that
sense, `KerPair` seems suspicious and at some point it should be
looked at.

We bootstrap the circular evar_map <-> econstr dependency by moving
the internal EConstr.API module to Evd.MiniEConstr. Then we make the
Evd functions use econstr.

We forbid calling `EConstr.to_constr` on terms that are not evar-free,
as to progress towards enforcing the invariant that `Constr.t` is
evar-free. [c.f. #6308]
Due to compatibility constraints we provide an optional parameter to
`to_constr`, `abort` which can be used to overcome this restriction
until we fix all parts of the code.
Now, grepping for `~abort:false` should return the questionable
parts of the system.
Not a lot of places had to be fixed, some comments:
- problems with the interface due to `Evd/Constr` [`Evd.define` being
the prime example] do seem real!
- inductives also look bad with regards to `Constr/EConstr`.
- code in plugins needs work.
A notable user of this "feature" is `Obligations/Program` that seem to
like to generate kernel-level entries with free evars, then to scan
them and workaround this problem by generating constants.

Ssreflect was using a very complex function performing amongst other things
refolding to check that a term was an applied inductive type. It now relies
on a simple reduction followed by term matching.

The `reference` type contains some ad-hoc locations in its
constructors, but there is no reason not to handle them with the
standard attribute container provided by `CAst.t`.
An orthogonal topic to this commit is whether the `reference` type
should contain a location or not at all.
It seems that many places would become a bit clearer by splitting
`reference` into non-located `reference` and `lreference`, however
some other places become messier so we maintain the current status-quo
for now.

Ssripats and Ssrview are now written in the Tactic Monad.
Ssripats implements the => tactical.
Ssrview implements the application of forward views.
The code is, according to my tests, 100% backward compatible.
The code is much more documented than before.
Moreover the "ist" (ltac context) used to interpret views is the correct
one (the one at ARGUMENT EXTEND interp time, not the one at TACTIC
EXTEND execution time). Some of the code not touched by this commit
still uses the incorrect ist, so its visibility in TACTIC EXTEND
can't be removed yet.
The main changes in the code are:
- intro patterns are implemented using a state machine (a goal comes
with a state). Ssrcommon.MakeState provides an easy way for a tactic
to enrich the goal with with data of interest, such as the set of
hyps to be cleared. This cleans up the old implementation that, in
order to thread the state, that to redefine a bunch of tclSTUFF
- the interpretation of (multiple) forward views uses the state to
accumulate intermediate results
- the bottom of Sscommon collects a bunch of utilities written in the
tactic monad. Most of them are the rewriting of already existing
utilities. When possible the old version was removed.

This commit was motivated by true spurious conversions arising in my
`to_constr` debug branch.
The changes here need careful review as the tradeoffs are subtle and
still a lot of clean up remains to be done in `vernac/*`.
We have opted for penalize [minimally] the few users coming from true
`Constr`-land, but I am sure we can tweak code in a much better way.
In particular, it is not clear if internalization should take an
`evar_map` even in the cases where it is not triggered, see the
changes under `plugins` for a good example.
Also, the new return type of `Pretyping.understand` should undergo
careful review.
We don't touch `Impargs` as it is not clear how to proceed, however,
the current type of `compute_implicits_gen` looks very suspicious as
it is called often with free evars.
Some TODOs are:
- impargs was calling whd_all, the Econstr equivalent can be either
+ Reductionops.whd_all [which does refolding and no sharing]
+ Reductionops.clos_whd_flags with all as a flag.

We follow the suggestions in #402 and turn uses of `Loc.located` in
`vernac` into `CAst.t`. The impact should be low as this change mostly
affects top-level vernaculars.
With this change, we are even closer to automatically map a text
document to its AST in a programmatic way.

The motivations are:
- To reflect the concrete syntax more closely.
- To factorize the different places where "contexts" are internalized:
before this patch, there is a different treatment of `Definition f
'(x,y) := x+y` and `Definition f := fun '(x,y) => x+y`, and a hack
to interpret `Definition f `pat := c : t`. With the patch, the fix
to avoid seeing a variable named `pat` works for both `fun 'x =>
...` and `Definition f 'x := ...`.
The drawbacks are:
- Counterpart to reflecting the concrete syntax more closerly, there
are more redundancies in the syntax. For instance, the case `CLetIn
(na,b,t,c)` can appears also in the form `CProdN (CLocalDef
(na,b,t)::rest,d)` and `CLambdaN (CLocalDef (na,b,t)::rest,d)`.
- Changes in the API, hence adaptation of plugins referring to `constr_expr` needed.

In current code, `Proofview.Goal.t` uses a phantom type to indicate
whether the goal was properly substituted wrt current `evar_map` or
not.
After the introduction of `EConstr`, this distinction should have
become unnecessary, thus we remove the phantom parameter from
`'a Proofview.Goal.t`. This may introduce some minor incompatibilities
at the typing level. Code-wise, things should remain the same.
We thus deprecate `assume`. In a next commit, we will remove
normalization as much as possible from the code.

There don't really bring anything, we also correct some minor nits
with the printing function.
|
| |

| |
| |
| |
| |
| |
| |
| |
| |
| | |
We'd like to handle proofs functionally we thus recommend not to use
printing functions without an explicit context.
We also adapt most of the code, making more explicit where the
printing environment is coming from.
An open task is to refactor some code so we gradually make the
`Pfedit.get_current_context ()` disappear.

We do up to `Term` which is the main bulk of the changes.

To this extent we factor out the relevant bits to a new file,
ltac_pretype.
|
|
|

For now, a few vernacular features were lot in the process, like locating
Ltac definitions. This will be fixed in an upcoming commit.

The internal detype function takes an additional arguments dictating
whether it should be eager or lazy.
We introduce a new type of delayed `DAst.t` AST nodes and use it for
`glob_constr`.
Such type, instead of only containing a value, it can contain a lazy
computation too. We use a GADT to discriminate between both uses
statically, so that no delayed terms ever happen to be
marshalled (which would raise anomalies).
We also fix a regression in the test-suite:
Mixing laziness and effects is a well-known hell. Here, an exception
that was raised for mere control purpose was delayed and raised at a
later time as an anomaly. We make the offending function eager.

This ensures that the API is self-contained and is, well, an API.
Before this patch, the contents of `API.mli` bore little relation with
what was used by the plugins [example: `Metasyntax` in tacentries.ml].
Many missing types had to be added.
A sanity check of the `API.mli` file can be done with:
`ocamlfind ocamlc -rectypes -package camlp5 -I lib API/API.mli`
|
| |
|
|
|
|
|
|
|
| |
Unluckily, this forces replacing a lot of code in plugins, because the API
defined the type of goals and tactics in Proof_type, and by the no-alias rule,
this was the only one. But Proof_type was already implicitly deprecated, so
that the API should have relied on Tacmach instead.

Also taking into account a name in the return clause and in the
indices.
Note the double meaning ``bound as a term to match'' and ``binding in
the "as" clause'' when the term to match is a variable for all of
"match", "if" and "let".
