Proof using can be followed by:
- All : all variables
- Type : all variables occurring in the type
- expr:
- (a b .. c) : set
- expr + expr : set union
- expr - expr : set difference
- -expr : set complement (All - expr)
Exceptions:
- a singleton set can be written without parentheses. This also allows
the implementation of named sets sharing the same name space of
section hyps ans write
- bla - x : where bla is defined as (a b .. x y) elsewhere.
- if expr is just a set, then parentheses can be omitted
This module also implements some AI to tell the user how he could
decorate "Proof" with a "using BLA" clause.
Finally, one can Set Default Proof Using "str" to any string that is
used whenever the "using ..." part is missing. The coding of this
sucks a little since it is the parser that applies the default.

This commit introduces 2 new vernac_expr constructors:
- VernacLocal (b,v) that represents a vernacular v with the "Local" modifier
- VernacProgram v that represents a vernacular v with the "Program" modifier
This allows the parser to avoid using side effects to model the two
modifiers, that are now represented in the AST. This also decouples the
parsing phase from the interpretation phase, since parsing a second
phrase does not alter the locality flag for the first phrase.
As a consequence all the locality_flag components of vernac_expr have
been removed, but for the ones that (for retro compatibility) allow
an "infix" Local flag. In these cases the boolean is renamed
obsolete_locality (as the grammar entry that parses it), and during
interpretation we check that at most one locality flag is specified,
using the idiom (where the input local is the obsolete one):
let local = enforce_XXX_locality locality local in
Another improvement is that the default locality is not chosen in the
parser, but in the interpreter where the idiom
let local = make_XXX_locality locality in
is used to default the locality to XXX (module/section/whatever).
Unfortunately not all side effects have been removed:
- Flags.program_mode is still used to signal that we are in program mode
- Locality.LocalityFixme.* functions are used in commands that do not
have an AST, but are parsed as VernacExtend (see vernacinterp.ml)
I guess one could fix the latter case systematically adding an extra
argument "locality" to commands attached using VERNAC COMMAND EXTEND.
Fixing plugins adding commands that honour "Local" should look like this:
VERNAC COMMAND EXTEND Set_Solver
| [ "Obligation" "Tactic" ":=" tactic(t) ] -> [
set_default_tactic
- (Locality.use_section_locality ())
+ (Locality.make_section_locality (Locality.LocalityFixme.consume ()))
(Tacintern.glob_tactic t) ]
END
In any case the side effects are set/consumed within then interpretation
phase, and not set during the parsing phase and consumed during the
interpretation phase.

now they are only necessary for compound expressions, like an

not loose generality (one can simply define constrs before Hint Resolving

- Natural semantics for typeclasses, not class resolution needed at
Hint Resolve time, meaning less trouble for users as well.
- Ability to [Hint Remove] any hint so declared.
- Simplifies the implementation as well.

kernel on CAMLP4/5 structures, and consequently should also erase
such structures from vo files.
This modification requires some code duplication, mainly while
reimplementing our own location data type. This is chiefly visible
in the ml4 files, where CAMLP4/5 locations must be manually converted
to our locations with an explicit (!@) cast operator.

I agree with Arnaud on this one...
Archeology: I could trace it back to r133 (in 1999!), and it was
adapted to many big changes, including change of parsing (r2722, in
2002). Maybe it was used by Centaur or something similar once... The
only relevant occurrences of "Go" in SVN history (since initial commit
in 1999) is that it "semble peu robuste aux erreurs", without a clear
specification of what it is supposed to do...
Looks like an interesting feature, though, but needs complete
rethinking (and documentation) with the new engine.

The choice between camlp4/5 is done during configure with flags
-usecamlp5 (default for the moment) vs. -usecamlp4.
Currently, to have a full camlp4 compatibility, you need to change
all "EXTEND" and "GEXTEND Gram" into "EXTEND Gram", and change "EOI"
into "`EOI" in grammar entries. I've a sed script that does that
(actually the converse), but I prefer to re-think it and check a few
things before branching this sed into the build mechanism.
lib/compat.ml4 is heavily used to hide incompatibilities between camlp4/5
and try to propose a common interface (cf LexerSig / GrammarSig).
A few incompatible quotations have been turned into underlying code
manually, in order to make the IFDEF CAMLP5 THEN ... ELSE ... END
parsable by both camlp4 and 5. See in particular the fate of
<:str_item< declare ... end >>
Stdpp isn't used anymore, but rather Ploc (hidden behind local module Loc).
This forces to use camlp5 > 5.01.

- Useless for those of us that work with git-svn (and a fortiori
in a forthcoming git-only setting)
- Even in svn, they seem to be of little interest

This is a fairly large commit (around 140 files and 7000 lines of code
impacted), it will cause some troubles for sure (I've listed the know
regressions below, there is bound to be more).
At this state of developpement it brings few features to the user, as
the old tactics were
ported with no change. Changes are on the side of the developer mostly.
Here comes a list of the major changes. I will stay brief, but the code
is hopefully well documented so that it is reasonably easy to infer the
details from it.
Feature developer-side:
* Primitives for a "real" refine tactic (generating a goal for each
evar).
* Abstract type of tactics, goals and proofs
* Tactics can act on several goals (formally all the focused goals). An
interesting consequence of this is that the tactical (. ; [ . | ... ])
can be separated in two
tacticals (. ; .) and ( [ . | ... ] ) (although there is a conflict for
this particular syntax). We can also imagine a tactic to reorder the
goals.
* Possibility for a tactic to pass a value to following tactics (a
typical example is
an intro function which tells the following tactics which name it
introduced).
* backtracking primitives for tactics (it is now possible to implement a
tactical '+'
with (a+b);c equivalent to (a;c+b;c) (itself equivalent to
(a;c||b;c)). This is a valuable
tool to implement tactics like "auto" without nowing of the
implementation of tactics.
* A notion of proof modes, which allows to dynamically change the parser
for tactics. It is controlled at user level with the keywords Set
Default Proof Mode (this is the proof mode which is loaded at the start
of each proof) and Proof Mode (switches the proof mode of the current
proof) to control them.
* A new primitive Evd.fold_undefined which operates like an Evd.fold,
except it only goes through the evars whose body is Evar_empty. This is
a common operation throughout the code,
some of the fold-and-test-if-empty occurences have been replaced by
fold_undefined. For now,
it is only implemented as a fold-and-test, but we expect to have some
optimisations coming some day, as there can be a lot of evars in an
evar_map with this new implementation (I've observed a couple of
thousands), whereas there are rarely more than a dozen undefined ones.
Folding being a linear operation, this might result in a significant
speed-up.
* The declarative mode has been moved into the plugins. This is made
possible by the proof mode feature. I tried to document it so that it
can serve as a tutorial for a tactic mode plugin.
Features user-side:
* Unfocus does not go back to the root of the proof if several Focus-s
have been performed.
It only goes back to the point where it was last focused.
* experimental (non-documented) support of keywords
BeginSubproof/EndSubproof:
BeginSubproof focuses on first goal, one can unfocus only with
EndSubproof, and only
if the proof is completed for that goal.
* experimental (non-documented) support for bullets ('+', '-' and '*')
they act as hierarchical BeginSubproof/EndSubproof:
First time one uses '+' (for instance) it focuses on first goal, when
the subproof is
completed, one can use '+' again which unfocuses and focuses on next
first goal.
Meanwhile, one cas use '*' (for instance) to focus more deeply.
Known regressions:
* The xml plugin had some functions related to proof trees. As the
structure of proof changed significantly, they do not work anymore.
* I do not know how to implement info or show script in this new engine.
Actually I don't even know what they were suppose to actually mean in
earlier versions either. I wager they would require some calm thinking
before going back to work.
* Declarative mode not entirely working (in particular proofs by
induction need to be restored).
* A bug in the inversion tactic (observed in some contributions)
* A bug in Program (observed in some contributions)
* Minor change in the 'old' type of tactics causing some contributions
to fail.
* Compilation time takes about 10-15% longer for unknown reasons (I
suspect it might be linked to the fact that I don't perform any
reduction at QED-s, and also to some linear operations on evar_map-s
(see Evd.fold_undefined above)).

This permits to create a database [relations] in [RelationClasses] with
a single extern tactic in it that tries to apply [reflexivity] or
[symmetry]. This is then automatically used in [auto with *] and repair
backward compatibility. The previous commit broke some scripts which were
using [intuition] to do (setoid) [reflexivity] or [symmetry]: this
worked only by accident, because the hint database of typeclasses was
used. Overrall, this also allows to put a bunch of
always-applicable, related tactics in some database or to use
[Hint Extern] but match only on hypotheses.

binding, add "!" syntax for the new binders which require parameters and
not superclasses. Change backquotes for curly braces for user-given
implicit arguments, following tradition. This requires a hack a la
lpar-id-coloneq. Change ident to global for typeclass names in class
binders. Also requires a similar hack to distinguish between [ C t1 tn ]

While hacking the parsing of { wf }, factorized the two versions of fix
annotation parsing that were present in g_constr and g_vernac.
Add the possibility of the user optionaly giving the priority for resolve and
exact hints (used by type classes). Syntax not fixed yet: a natural

after the instance constraint in Instance declarations (ex in
Morphisms.v).

Adds a new kind of casts (CastCoerce) for coercing an object to its base type (e.g. inductive).
The new cast_type type subsumes usual casts ConvCasts. Much of the patch is just adding ConvCasts where needed.
The Pretyping module has been adapted to this change, although it doesn't change anything yet, but this construct could have
a use with current coercions also. Pretyping is also cleaned from the "Use type constraints under lambdas" patch which is not yet ready
for wide use. It has been transferred to a copy of the Pretyping Functor in subtac_pretyping_F.ml.
Subtac is now working as well as I demonstrated at TYPES.
