| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | The internal detype function takes an additional arguments dictating whether it should be eager or lazy. We introduce a new type of delayed `DAst.t` AST nodes and use it for `glob_constr`. Such type, instead of only containing a value, it can contain a lazy computation too. We use a GADT to discriminate between both uses statically, so that no delayed terms ever happen to be marshalled (which would raise anomalies). We also fix a regression in the test-suite: Mixing laziness and effects is a well-known hell. Here, an exception that was raised for mere control purpose was delayed and raised at a later time as an anomaly. We make the offending function eager.

| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | Previously to this patch, Coq featured to distinct logging paths: the console legacy one, based on `Pp.std_ppcmds` and Ocaml's `Format` module, and the `Feedback` one, intended to encapsulate message inside a more general, GUI-based feedback protocol. This patch removes the legacy logging path and makes feedback canonical. Thus, the core of Coq has no dependency on console code anymore. Additionally, this patch resolves the duplication of "document" formats present in the same situation. The original console-based printing code relied on an opaque datatype `std_ppcmds`, (mostly a reification of `Format`'s format strings) that could be then rendered to the console. However, the feedback path couldn't reuse this type due to its opaque nature. The first versions just embedded rending of `std_ppcmds` to a string, however in 8.5 a new "rich printing" type, `Richpp.richpp` was introduced. The idea for this type was to be serializable, however it brought several problems: it didn't have proper document manipulation operations, its format was overly verbose and didn't preserve the full layout, and it still relied on `Format` for generation, making client-side rendering difficult. We thus follow the plan outlined in CEP#9, that is to say, we take a public and refactored version of `std_ppcmds` as the canonical "document type", and move feedback to be over there. The toplevel now is implemented as a feedback listener and has ownership of the console. `richpp` is now IDE-specific, and only used for legacy rendering. It could go away in future versions. `std_ppcmds` carries strictly more information and is friendlier to client-side rendering and display control. Thus, the new panorama is: - `Feedback` has become a very module for event dispatching. - `Pp` contains a target-independent box-based document format. It also contains the `Format`-based renderer. - All console access lives in `toplevel`, with console handlers private to coqtop. _NOTE_: After this patch, many printing parameters such as printing width or depth should be set client-side. This works better IMO, clients don't need to notify Coq about resizing anywmore. Indeed, for box-based capable backends such as HTML or LaTeX, the UI can directly render and let the engine perform the word breaking work. _NOTE_: Many messages could benefit from new features of the output format, however we have chosen not to alter them to preserve output. A Future commits will move console tag handling in `Pp_style` to `toplevel/`, where it logically belongs. The only change with regards to printing is that the "Error:" header was added to console output in several different positions, we have removed some of this duplication, now error messages should be a bit more consistent.

The patch continues work initiated for 8.5 and has the following effects: - The following functions in `Pp`: `pp`, `ppnl`, `pperr`, `pperrnl`, `pperr_flush`, `pp_flush`, `flush_all`, `msg`, `msgnl`, `msgerr`, `msgerrnl`, `message` are removed. `Feedback.msg_*` functions must be used instead. - Feedback provides different backends to handle output, currently, `stdout`, `emacs` and CoqIDE backends are provided. - Clients cannot specify flush policy anymore, thus `pp_flush` et al are gone. - `Feedback.feedback` takes an `edit_or_state_id` instead of the old mix. Lightly tested: Test-suite passes, Proof General and CoqIDE seem to work.

| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | For a file dir/a.v the corresponding aux file dir/.a.aux can store arbitrary data. It maps a "Loc.t * string" (key) to a "string" (value). Pretty much anything can fit in this schema, but ATM I see only the following possible uses: 1) record inferred data, like the set of section variable used, so that one can later use this info to process proofs asynchronously (i.e. compute their discharged type without knowing the proof term). 2) record timings (how long it takes to build a proof term or check it), so that one can take smarter scheduling decisions 3) record a bloated proof trace for automatic tactics, so that one can replay it faster (a sort of cache). For that to be useful an Ltac API is required. The .aux file contains the path of the .v and its md5 hash. When loaded it defaults to the empty map is the file is not there or if the .v file changed. Not finding some data in the .aux file cannot be a failure, but finding it may help in many ways. The current file format is very simple but human readable. It is generated/parsed using printf/scanf and in particular the %S formatter for the value string. The file format is private to the Aux_file module: only an abstract interface is provided. The current file format is not robust in face of local changes. Any change invalidates the md5 hash (and the Loc.t is very likely to change too).

Coqide stores the information in the proof of concept module wg_Tooltip, that also sets things up so that these infos are displayed as a tooltip when the mouse is over the text they are attached to. These infos are available only on locked text, and on the text just processed in the case of an error (on this piece of text, they vanish as the error tag vanishes as soon as the user edits the text). wg_Tooltip stocks these infos as lazy string. | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | Using OCaml 3.11+ builtin facilities to record stack frames during exception raising, we can now recover at runtime the backtrace of an uncaught toplevel exception and display it to the user, without the infamous OCaml debugger. The backtrace is displayed when using the [-debug] flag. This requires a bit of discipline, as each time we reraise an exception we need to keep track of those frames we discarded between the previous raise and the current [try-with] branch. Currently, only [Anomaly] is handled, but this can be ported to any exception as long as we add the backtrace info into the exception, and we provide the corresponding handler to [Backtracke.register_backtrace_handler].
