native OCaml code.
Warning: the "retroknowledge" mechanism has not been ported to the native
compiler, because integers and persistent arrays will ultimately be defined as
primitive constructions. Until then, computation on numbers may be faster using
the VM, since it takes advantage of machine integers.

The IFDEF's in mltop.ml4 were there to support platforms with
a native ocaml compiler but no dynlink.cmxa, a situation that
should be pretty rare in the Coq community nowadays (playing
with coqtop on ARM, anyone ?). So we now refuse to build
a native coqtop unless dynlink.cmxa exists (cf ./configure),
and we explain how to create a dummy one if necessary
(cf dev/dynlink.ml). This way, we can clean-up mltop.ml,
and remove ugly special rules in Makefile and myocamlbuild
NB: I checked that this shouldn't have any impact on Coq's
debian packages on exotic architectures (arm, mips, ...),
since apparently on these architectures no ocamlopt at all
are shipped, and coq packages are already byte-only

kernel on CAMLP4/5 structures, and consequently should also erase
such structures from vo files.
This modification requires some code duplication, mainly while
reimplementing our own location data type. This is chiefly visible
in the ml4 files, where CAMLP4/5 locations must be manually converted
to our locations with an explicit (!@) cast operator.

The idea was to allow rebuilding coqtop without the whole stdlib,
but it's not working anymore since the stdlib also depends on
plugins .cmxs, hence its compilation will be triggered anyway.
Since I've no idea how to restore the old behavior (except via
hacking the output of coqdep with more ORDER_ONLY hack), I simply
declare this option dead, and remove it for improving clarity.
NB: an imperfect workaround is to touch all the .vo after rebuilding
coqtop and the plugins...

List module. That way, an "open Util" in the header permits using
any function of CList in the List namespace (and in particular, this
permits optimized reimplementations of the List functions, as, for
example, tail-rec implementations.

especially about unused definitions, unused opens and unused rec
flags.
The following patch uses information gathered using these warnings to
clean Coq source tree. In this patch, I focused on warnings whose fix
are very unlikely to introduce bugs.
(a) "unused rec flags". They cannot change the semantics of the program
but only allow the inliner to do a better job.
(b) "unused type definitions". I only removed type definitions that were
given to functors that do not require them. Some type definitions were
used as documentation to obtain better error messages, but were not
ascribed to any definition. I superficially mentioned them in one
arbitrary chosen definition to remove the warning. This is unaesthetic
but I did not find a better way.
(c) "unused for loop index". The following idiom of imperative
programming is used at several places: "for i = 1 to n do
that_side_effect () done". I replaced "i" with "_i" to remove the
warning... but, there is a combinator named "Util.repeat" that
would only cost us a function call while improving readibility.
Should'nt we use it?

If you add Auto to dev/printers.mllib, then you have to add Tacmach, so
you have to add Redexpr, consequently Vnorm is required, it depends on
Vm, that include externals !
Let's revert commit 15675.

All the purely monadic code has been moved to a new module Monads,
where, I'm afraid to confess, I got to use a number of proof transformers
to modularise the definition of tactics. It is still not easy to understand (why
would it with backtracking support?) but at least it's more robust, cleaner,
and more extensible. Plus there is now a Proofview.tclORELSE which will
be used to interprete the Ltac tactical (t1 || t2).

Meanwhile, a simplified interface is provided in loc.mli.
This also permits to put Pp in Clib, because it does not depend on
CAMLP4/5 anymore.

tools/scripts/...
- Lib that is Coqtop specific
As a side effect for the build system :
- Coq_config is in Clib and does not appears in makefiles
- only the BEST version of coqc and coqmktop is made
- ocamlbuild build system fails latter but is still broken
(ocamldebug finds automatically Unix but not Str. I've probably done something wrong here.)
